The 26th Annual Huplits Grant: Round Two

Promoting Sierra Club’s mission and policy

By Christopher Shepherd, Chair, Huplits Grant Committee

The Sierra Club Allegheny Group’s Huplits Grant Committee is seeking grant proposals to help promote Sierra Club’s policies and mission in Pennsylvania. Approximately $75,000 will be available for the second round of funding in the 2023 -2024 Huplits Grant Competition, and we seek to fund 4-8 projects. Ten (10) grants were awarded in last year's (2022-2023) competition, totaling $86,225.

Application Guidelines:

  • We seek projects that promote Sierra Club’s policies and mission in Pennsylvania.
  • A proposal may involve public education, grassroots campaign organization, litigation, land acquisition, or research that fulfills the Sierra Club’s organizational policies and mission.
  • Projects can be funded for 12 or 24 months. Status reports are due at the mid-point and the end of each grant term. In order to be eligible for additional funding awards, an organization must provide timely status reports and demonstrate that previous funding has been fully spent.
  • Grants may be sought by Sierra Club entities within Pennsylvania.
  • Non-Sierra Club organizations with projects in Pennsylvania may apply for a grant; however, preference will be given to proposals that work in partnership with Sierra Club and are aligned with the goals of local Pennsylvania Sierra Club Groups and/or Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter.
  • Applications seeking Sierra Club preference must be accompanied by a supporting letter from their local Pennsylvania Sierra Club Group Chair.
  • All proposals must include a copy of their IRS501(c)(3) designation letter, or that of a fiscal sponsor.

All organizations seeking funds must submit a completed Application Form (click here to download it) and the appropriate accompanying documents.

DEADLINE: Submit proposals no later than October 15, 2023 to Christopher Shepherd, Huplits 2023 Committee Chair, via e-mail at shepherd999@gmail.com.

If you have any questions, contact Chris Shepherd via email or call 412-513-7242.
