Clean Communities Project

Let's Seize the Moment Together!

Billions of federal dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) are becoming available at the state and local level for projects that will help transition us to a clean energy economy, creating 9 million jobs and reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2030.

At Sierra Club Pennsylvania, we want to seize the moment by:

  • Empowering grassroots activists to utilize the resources created by the IRA/IIJA laws to reach our long-term clean energy goals and build a larger environmental movement that centers on frontline communities and our commitment to equity and justice.

  • Activating Pennsylvanians across the state to bring resources from the IRA/IIJA to their communities.

  • Advancing state programs compatible with IRA/IIJA programs and funding.

  • Securing clean energy funding for our local schools and neighbors.

What do Clean Communities Project volunteers do?

Project participants can reach out to their local schools, write letters to the editor, share resources at community events, send text alerts, participate in public outreach opportunities held by state agencies, or work with us to find the role that suits their interests, skills & schedule!

The Project includes two initiatives, one focusing on schools (Clean Schools) and one focusing on residential home energy rebates (Clean Homes). Volunteers can choose to work on both initiatives, or prioritize the one that is most meaningful to them. Learn more about Clean Schools and Clean Homes below.

Initiative #1: Clean Schools

The Clean Communities Project is seeking community members who are willing to reach out to their school district's leaders. We want to make sure every school in Pennsylvania is aware of the funding opportunities available to support their clean energy transition. This can be as easy as sending our template letter to your local school leaders!

Initiative #2: Clean Homes - Details coming soon
