Sierra Club is Hiring an Organizer for Philly Climate Works (PCW)

by Emily Abendroth, Program Manager, Philly Climate Works, Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter

If you’re passionate about working together in community toward clean energy and meaningful climate policy, especially as it relates to environmental injustice, housing equity, worker transition, and the decarbonization of buildings here in the city of Philadelphia, this might be the job for you!

This position offers an opportunity to organize in concert with a strong, diverse, and broad-based climate justice movement in Philadelphia to build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. PCW is a co-convener of the HERE 4 Climate Justice Coalition (Housing Equity, Repair, and Electrification for Climate Justice) which brings together community organizations, home repair providers, workforce and community development partners, and climate justice groups across Philadelphia to fight for safe, healthy, affordable, fossil-free housing for all. As a PCW Organizer, your role will include supporting and amplifying HERE 4 Climate Justice’s mission and campaigns, as well engaging with other efforts to reduce the city’s reliance on fossil fuels and increase climate resilience. You can find the link to the full job description here!

We’re looking for candidates with experience working on advocacy in the environmental justice or social justice field and basic knowledge of issues related to environmental, racial, economic, housing, and gender justice in Philadelphia. You’ll be helping to grow the campaigns/coalitions of both PCW and HERE 4 Climate Justice, so a strong ability to network, build trust, and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and community members is essential.

This position offers a unique opportunity to advocate for: healthy, affordable, and climate resilient housing for all Philadelphians; affordable, fossil fuel-free utilities; and family and community sustaining jobs. If you’re excited to contribute your creative energies toward building up grassroots involvement in the struggle for climate justice, we hope you’ll apply!
