Pennsylvania Takes Steps Toward Holding Fracking Companies Accountable

HARRISBURG, PA -- Today, Democrats in the Pennsylvania State Senate introduced a package of bills designed to address the harms of the fracking industry. The legislation is a response to the findings and recommendations of Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s investigation and grand jury report from last year.

In response, Tom Torres, Director of the Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter, released the following statement:

"We have known for years about the threats fracking poses to our health, our drinking water, our communities, and the climate, and we applaud these senators for taking steps to address them. The legislation introduced today represents an important first step toward holding polluting corporations accountable for the harm they have done and are doing to Pennsylvania. We look forward to working with these officials and engaging with the community to ensure this legislation precludes further risks to our people, environment, and economy.”
