Owning, Driving and Charging an EV is Finally Worth It!

Presented by Kris Ibarra & hosted by Delta-Sierra Group. Free and Open to All Interested Viewers
With gas prices out of control, combined with expanding charging networks, and lowering cost of battery manufacturing, it has never made more sense to trade your gas car for an electric vehicle. Keep more money in your pocket, never pump gas again, and consider an EV today!
Kris Ibarra is the Director of Imaging & Public Relations for the Tesla Owners Club and a Member of Electric Vehicle Association, both for San Joaquin Valley.

Biomass Incineration Presented by Daniel Barad Monday May 23 @ 7 pm via Zoom

Daniel Barad joined the Sierra Club California staff in June 2017 to work on forest biomass policy and ways to ensure that forest biomass burning in California doesn’t expand and create new pollution while displacing renewable energy. He is now a policy advocate for issues relating to biomass incineration, forests, wildfires, transportation, and electricity. Daniel also leads our Tracking the Dirty Dollars Project, which researches and presents in a readable format the campaign contributions to legislators and the governor from oil and gas interests. He graduated in December 2016 from Gonzaga University Spokane, Washington with a degree in political science and environmental studies. For the past 8+ years, he has appeared in the Record newspaper each Tuesday as their regional travel writer, focusing on the valley, California and nearby Western states.

An Important Update on the Health of the Delta

Annual Joint Meeting of San Joaquin Audubon Society and Delta-Sierra Group

October 25 2021 at 7:00 pm
Please join us on October 25 when Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, executive director and a co-founder of Restore the Delta, will be sharing an update on the state of the estuary, harmful algal blooms, and carbon sequestration efforts. It's an enormous effort to monitor all aspects of the threats to the Delta and our environment and raise the concern of our citizens.

Over the last 14 years, Ms. Barrigan-Parrilla has worked to grow the campaign from 70 to over 60,000 supporters who seek to ensure a healthy San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary and Delta communities. She has worked to give Delta residents a voice and to ensure that they have a direct impact on water management decisions affecting the water quality and well-being of their communities, while working for the advancement of water sustainability and equity policies for all Californians. Through public education and outreach, advocacy, negotiation, protest, and litigation, Ms. Barrigan-Parrilla has advanced the idea that state and federal government must recognize the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta as part of California’s natural heritage, deserving of protection, while ensuring the inclusion of the Delta’s environmental justice communities in planning and government processes.

We hope you will link into this presentation and seek ways to support Restore the Delta in all they are doing.

Opening Doors For Native Steelhead and Salmon Populations on the Calaveras River;
A Progress Report on the Removal of Barriers to Migrating Fish

Monday, April 26,2021 @ 7pm
Presented by Jim Marsh
Zoom link noted below

Habitat loss is the single most significant cause of species extinction in our times. This talk will focus on some significant efforts that are taking place locally--hidden in plain sight--with some practically in our own backyards.

Historically the Calaveras River was home to significant populations of migratory fish species primarily Steelhead Trout but also Chinook Salmon. Evidence of the seasonal passage of these fish up and down the river can still be witnessed by the careful, lucky observer at just the right times in places as close as the shallows under the Wood Memorial Footbridge on the UOP campus and in the rocky riffle under the Pacific Avenue Bridges.

Jim Marsh will report on recent work being done to remove some of the worst of the nearly 100 obstacles that face Steelhead and Salmon on their annual spawning journeys up and down the Calaveras to and from some of their most potentially fertile breeding habitat below Hoga Dam. Easing access to favored upriver habitat represents a major win in the efforts to conserve highly at-risk natural populations.

"Exploring Community Choice Energy for Stockton"

Monday, March 22, 2021 @ 7pm
Delta-Sierra Group monthly program meeting

Presenter--Davis Harper
Join us on Monday, March 22 at 7:00 PM for our monthly program meeting. On March 23, Stockton’s City Council will be receiving a presentation on a feasibility study examining the opportunities and economic outlook for launching a Community Choice Energy agency. Community Choice Aggregation is a state-enabled program that would allow the City to buy cleaner electricity at competitive rates on behalf of all Stockton residents and businesses and reinvest net revenues back into the community to meet specific needs. PG&E would continue to provide distribution services through its power lines, while a governing board of local elected officials would be deciding what electricity sources we buy from and setting rates for power generation. With a local CCA, millions of dollars in power generation revenues that normally leave Stockton’s economy would be retained locally, and could over time be reinvested into new, local clean energy sources, programs to help save people on energy costs, and more.

Davis Harper, San Joaquin County organizer with The Climate Center, will be providing more details on CCA and offering a space for people to ask questions.

You must register to attend this program. To register click on this link: https://sierraclub.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMsfu2qrTMoGdEIZq_GDXOV-Iio3csdGEyq
You will receive a confirmation email which will include your personalized login information for the meeting.

Monday, January 25, 2021, 7pm  San Joaquin County Multi-Species Habitat Conservation and Open Space Plan (SJMSCP)

Speakers: Steven Mayo, SJCOG, Inc. – Program Manager

Steven Mayo, SJCOG, Inc. Program Manager, is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting for a presentation to the Delta Sierra Group regarding the ongoing habitat conservation efforts in San Joaquin County.

The San Joaquin County Habitat Conservation Plan (SJMSCP) provides a balanced strategy to care for Open Space balanced with  protecting the stakeholders in the area, including the agricultural economy, landowner property rights, and the long-term management of plant and wildlife species. The SJMSCP has over 17,000 acres of protected lands in the County ranging from riparian, grassland and active row crop habitat to help proliferate the 97-covered species under the plan. The SJMSCP is administered by SJCOG, Inc., as a non-profit 501 (c)(3) entity, to ensure local control of the protected properties with local landowners.

The Waldo Holt San Joaquin Conservancy

Waldo Holt was a charismatic and much-loved conservationist and birder. The City of Stockton and San Joaquin County are poorer for his loss. Following his untimely death, his friends were inspired to create a habitat conservancy in his name. The mission of the Waldo Holt San Joaquin Conservancy is to “Preserve and enhance wildlife habitat lands in San Joaquin County and nearby areas for the benefit of people and the environment”. Our focus is on restoring and protecting riparian habitat. In order to restore and protect riparian habitat we use private and public funding to acquire conservation easements over riparian habitats that are in close association with other protected habitat, most notably San Joaquin Council of Government preserves
