DELTA SIERRA GROUP & FIRST UNITARIAN HOSTS COASTAL CLEANUP DAY
20th Annual San Joaquin County
International Coastal Cleanup Day
Saturday, September 21: 9:00 am-12 noon
Coastal Cleanup Day is around the corner and we need your help. Last year, volunteers cleared 16 sites and disposed of 38,000 pounds of trash. Together we can make a difference and strive to keep our waterways clean!
We will again host the site at the Northwest corner of the Calaveras River and Pacific Avenue. We meet at 8:30am on the levee, start at 9:00am, and end at 12:00 noon.
Parking is available in the triangular lot at that corner of Brookside Drive and Pacific Ave. Please be sure and wear closed-toe shoes, a hat or visor, and sunscreen. If you can, please bring your own garden gloves, refillable water bottle, and reusable bucket, but gloves, water, and bags will be available at the site. We work in teams of two or three. We will have waiver forms the morning of, but if you download and bring the completed form--it would save time.
This could be a great educational outing with kids or grandkids!
Ocean trash is a serious pollution problem that affects the health of people, wildlife and local economies. Even though we are inland and don't live near the beach, trash travels downstream via inland waterways, storm drains, sewers, and then, if not removed, this debris will end up in the ocean. Join the world’s largest volunteer effort for our ocean and waterways by participating in the International Coastal Cleanup event. If you'd like to participate, contact Dick Abood at rabood@pacific.edu
