Volunteer

The Chapter does as much as it does because many volunteers donate generous amounts of time to making it work. We can always use another pair of hands, and some of the opportunities to help are listed here. There are also opportunities with outings, conservation, and environmental politics. If you're interested but don't see your perfect job, contact volunteer.opportunities@lomaprieta.sierraclub.org.

30x30 Committee: Conservation of 30 percent of Lands and Waters by 2030

Sierra Club 30x30

As a 30x30 Volunteer you will play an important role in conserving 30 percent of California’s land and water to ensure that we enjoy the beauty of our California outdoors for years to come. Match your interests and skills with the Loma Prieta 30x30 campaign:

  • Advocacy - Attend local meetings (mostly over zoom) to provide citizen input or (with permission) register Loma Prieta Chapter support or opposition for an issue. Write letters of support for conservation campaigns.
  • Listen and Report - Attend monthly Sierra Club California 30x30 meetings and report to the Loma Prieta Conservation Committee. There's also optional participation in a 30x30 sub team.
  • Outreach and Communication - Within and outside of the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter. Provide grant information as appropriate and support with Chapter permission as needed.
  • Creativity - Create posters and digital content for raising awareness about 30x30 and providing education about local conservation priorities.

Join the Forest Protection Committee

Forest Protection Committee

Forests are often called the lungs of the earth. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. In doing so, they sequester carbon keeping it safely out of the atmosphere, help regulate worldwide climate and enable the existence of other life forms, including ourselves.  Forests also filter water, create precipitation, support soil health and stability, provide habitat and promote biodiversity.

If you love forests and are an activist or want to be, join us! The Loma Prieta Forest Protection Committee hosts educational events and takes action to help protect forests in the Santa Cruz  Mountains and throughout California. The committee also promotes home hardening and community planning to help communities be safer from fire. Learn more!
