2025 Spring Fund Drive for the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter

Dear Changemaker,

The Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club is unique. Our volunteers come from all walks of life to focus their commitment on pressing environmental issues, from open space protection to plastic prevention. They mentor environmentally-minded leaders, work with cities to develop and pass green policies, educate the next generation of environmental advocates, and help people discover and fall in love with our local nature. Every year, their efforts deliver essential successes for preserving the Bay Area.

However, our success depends on the commitment of people like you, whose generosity fuels this work. The partnership between dedicated volunteers, staff expertise, and your support makes the Loma Prieta Chapter a powerful advocate for clean air, water, and land.

That is why I am asking you today to make a gift of $30, $45, $90, or even $150 to ensure our local environment continues to have a strong and effective protector in the Loma Prieta Chapter.

We have a challenging year ahead, but with your help we can prepare for those challenges and achieve victories our environment desperately needs. Here are a few of the critical goals your donation will help accomplish.

● Stop a gigantic warehouse/distribution center located in an old quarry site in San Bruno Mountain Park near Brisbane. This proposal threatens sensitive habitat in the Park that is home to more than thirty rare plant species and four endangered butterfly species.

● Demand the Redwood LIFE office campus proposal be abandoned or substantially revised. This huge project, on the shoreline of Redwood Shores Wildlife Reserve, would penetrate an old, unlined landfill near Belmont Slough, and is highly vulnerable to flooding, sea-level rise, release of soil-borne contamination and earthquake liquefaction.

● Pass the first ban on toxic artificial turf in our region, reducing serious risks to children, public health, and local ecosystems.

● Support the adoption of strong Dark Sky and Bird-Safe Design ordinances in Los Altos and Santa Clara County, protecting humans and wildlife from harmful light pollution.

Achieving our goals will neither be easy nor fast, but there is one thing I know for sure, that these victories need your support.

While corporations may be spending millions of dollars to push their agendas, we also have something powerful: our Loma Prieta Chapter community of changemakers. Our volunteers and staff, empowered by gifts from supporters like you, connect with decision-makers in ways that no paid lobbyist ever could. Our Loma Prieta Chapter is ordinary people making an extraordinary difference.

Your gift today will provide the resources needed to win victories that will protect and preserve our local environment. Your generous donation of $30, $45, $90, or even $150 or more will help us succeed.

Together, we can ensure a sustainable, just, and thriving future for our local environment and communities. I have already made my gift, so won’t you join me?

Sincerely,

Gita Dev
