We are the local group of the Sierra Club and are based in Reno, Nevada. We are part of the Toiyabe Chapter which covers all of Nevada and parts of eastern California. Our chapter is one of 64 in the entire Sierra Club. Click the Toiyabe Chapter link to the right to go to its home page.

Our Great Basin Group motto is "We Get You Outdoors" Although we cover the high desert of the Great Basin, our outings also visit the northern Sierra Nevada and places farther. With so many wonderful places to hike and explore nearby, it's no wonder that our group has one of the most active outings schedules in the Sierra Club.

Our program has attracted many people to become outings leaders who have then introduced thousands to beautiful places around us. In between our enjoyment of the outdoors, we advocate for conservation measures to protect the natural resources in our area and promote the use of our abundant, renewable geothermal and solar energy sources in Nevada.
