February News

We have a team that is very active with legislation to promote renewable clean energy and smart development for our region that takes into consideration our limited resources. The GBG will continue to provide informative Program Meetings at the Innevation Center every 2nd Thursday through May, starting again in September. To locate details for both Programs and Outings go to Sierraclubhiking-Reno on our Meet Up site. Look for opportunities to get involved in Outings geared toward cleaning up trash in collaboration with other environmental organizations. We also expect to have a broad range of Outings for participants of various ability levels to get out and learn about great trails in our area and the environment in those places.  On January 4th, we held two outings at the local Waste Management Recycling Center with a total of 54 attendees! This event was so popular we will plan on offering this tour again in the fall. Watch for details for the well-attended GBG Annual Member’s Picinic in early August

In closing, I would like to share that the GBG recently provided a $1,000 Grant to help 5th Grade Students at C.C. Meneley Elementary in Gardnerville to attend a three-night, four-day field trip at Lake Tahoe through the Great Basin Outdoor School. This will be a fantastic opportunity for these children to learn about the Tahoe environment by participating in science-based activities and to be involved in such a life-changing experience. We are looking for other schools to provide grants for environmentally oriented field trips or events.

Thanks for your support,
