Wayne Ramsey, Vice President of the Middle Tennessee Rockhounds and award-winning mineral collector, will present the monthly program on underground mining is Tennessee. Wayne is well known in the national collecting community and has over 2000 specimens cataloged in his collection.
The world-famous Elmwood mine in Smith County has produced excellent specimens of Calcite, Fluorite and Sphalerite. Join us to learn more about the history of this mine and the minerals found there.
Pictured are some Elmwood specimens. Come and learn about the process that formed these exquisite minerals, how they were discovered, mined, and their value today. Actual specimens will be displayed for your viewing enjoyment.
The evening promises to be an educational and informative one. We will be joined by the local Audubon folks for this special evening, so come at 6:30 if you want to have time to socialize with both Sierra and Audubon.
The Middle Tennessee Group business meeting is at House of Kabob, 216 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37211. Meeting begins at 6:30pm. Dining is available at the restaurant at 6:00pm. All are welcome, but please RSVP to Grace Stranch so she can let you know if there are any changes.
Inspiring Connections Outdoors is an outings program where volunteer leaders collaborate with community partners to get people outdoors, especially youth, who may not have access on their own to safely discover the wonders of the natural world. Through outdoor experiences, we promote appreciation and protection of the natural environment, provide opportunities for personal growth, and foster respect of self, others, and the environment.
