Fossil Fools is an aggressive midterm electoral ad campaign, launched by the Sierra Club Political Committee, targeting over a dozen incumbent Congressional Republicans and candidates for defeat.

Today in his speech at the “Shale Insight Convention” in Pittsburgh, while touting the 28 environmental rollbacks taken since Trump took office, Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler told fracking corporations that “Methane is valuable. It is your main product not a byproduct, or perhaps the Sierra Club does understand that and they're trying to do to you what they did to the coal industry.” Among other notable speakers was Andree Griffin, the Vice President Geology and Geophysics at Exxonmobil/XTO Energy.

DETROIT, MI - Today, The Michigan Sierra Club Independent Action PAC announced a new general election mail campaign in support of Democratic candidate Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign to be Governor of Michigan. The Michigan Sierra Club Independent Action PAC is sending two separate mailers to voters highlighting Whitmer’s strong stance on clean water, focusing on both her efforts to protect the Great Lakes, as well as ensuring that everyone in the state has access to clean drinking water.

Last week, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted to set a default of 100 percent renewable electricity when the county launches service through the Clean Power Alliance in 2019. Clean Power Alliance is a Southern California community choice energy provider that will procure cleaner power at lower costs than investor-owned utility Southern California Edison (SCE).

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, on twitter, Donald Trump claimed that the United States has the “cleanest air in the world - BY FAR!” using a World Health Organization map of particulate pollution. However, just last week, Trump’s EPA disbanded the EPA science panel that reviews particulate pollution, and Trump has gutted several clean air standards that protect from particulate matter pollution such as the clean car standards, Clean Power Plan, and glider truck rule. These rollbacks stand to hurt Trump’s voter base the most.

Pittsburgh, PA -- Late Friday, at the request of a coalition of clean water advocates including the Sierra Club and Appalachian Mountain Advocates, the Pittsburgh District of the Army Corps of Engineers suspended a third permit that the fracked gas Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) must have in order to build through waterways in Wetzel and Harrison Counties in West Virginia.
