The Sierra Club held a press conference to release a report on the economic feasibility of JEA transitioning away from fossil fuel energy generation to clean renewable energy. Key findings show that retiring and replacing JEA’s Northside Coal Units (Units 1 and 2) with clean, renewable energy will save customers $15 million to $60 million per year while cutting climate pollution and local air pollution emissions by more than half.

ARIZONA â€“ Today the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) reaffirmed its April decision in a 3 to 2 vote, denying a rehearing for a certificate of environmental compatibility for Salt River Project's proposed expansion of the gas-fired Coolidge Generating Station. In May, SRP filed for a rehearing, and today's renewed decision closes out the saga at the ACC. Any further action by SRP will need to be pursued in Superior Court.

Washington, DC – Today, President Biden will announce a two year exemption on the collection of tariffs for solar panels from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam and invoke the Defense Production Act to further increase solar panels and other clean energy technologies. The announcement comes as the Commerce Department continues its solar panel investigation forced by a single small U.S. solar company.

Cherelle Blazer, the Sierra Club’s International Climate and Policy Director, will be in attendance at the Bonn SB 56 meetings from June 6-16. She will be focusing on Loss and Damage and the Glasgow Dialogue during the meetings and will be able to speak on those issues as well as energy issues (coal, oil, and gas), climate, and fossil fuel financing.

ARIZONA â€“ Sierra Club has filed a suit against Arizona utility Salt River Project (SRP) in the Superior Court of Arizona for violating Arizona's Public Records Act by withholding critical information about the utility's power generation and planning process. SRP's lack of transparency harms Arizona's communities, eroding trust customers may have had in their utility.

Dover, Delaware — Today, Senator Hansen and Representative Heffernan introduced the Delaware Climate Change Solutions Act, which establishes statewide greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets of 50% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, from 2005 levels. The bill addresses all sectors of the economy and directs state agencies to incorporate the emissions reductions goals and climate impact scenarios into current and future regulatory decision-making and rulemaking.
