Indianapolis, IN - Today, Duke Energy, the largest electric utility in the state, filed a case with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission’s (IURC) requesting to raise residential customers’ bills an additional 19% by 2026.

If approved, Duke would use its customers' money to keep its massively polluting Gibson and Edwardsport coal-burning power plants open.

Today, the U.S. Senators on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing to consider President Biden’s nominations to fill current and future vacancies for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The FERC nominees are Democrats Judy Chang and David Rosner, and Republican Lindsay See. By statute, only three of the five commissioners can be from the same political party. FERC is an independent federal agency that makes key decisions about our nation’s energy future, including the interstate transmission of methane gas and electricity.

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Today, Governor Josh Shapiro announced the Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard (PRESS), his proposal to update the 2004 Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards (AEPS). Forward looking at the time of its adoption, the AEPS requires Pennsylvania utilities and electricity suppliers to purchase minimum amounts of electricity from renewable or alternative sources and includes mostly clean renewable energy like wind and solar in Tier I, and dirtier alternatives like energy from waste coal and trash incineration in Tier II.

Washington, DC – Today, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released its annual electricity market report that shows low emissions energy sources will account for almost half of the world’s electricity generation by 2026, up from 39% in 2023.

The IEA published its annual World Energy Outlook today, which shows that progress is being made to move the global economy to renewable resources, but there is still too much reliance on fossil fuels that put energy security and the future livability of the planet at risk. Thanks to existing policies, including the U.S.’s Inflation Reduction Act, IEA predicts global fossil fuel demand will peak by 2030 and urges that the transition to renewable energy must happen as quickly as possible. “The sooner the better,” according to IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol.
