Outdoors for All
Sierra Club’s Outdoors for All Campaign works to expand universal access to nature for everyone.
Nature is a powerful healer
Getting outdoors benefits our mental and physical health and the health of our society. But not everyone has access to the transformative power of the outdoors. Nature and the opportunity to play outdoors are becoming a luxury item in our society, accessible only to the privileged few. Just like our school systems are divided by class and race, so are our neighborhoods -- meaning that low-income families are significantly less likely to live near a local park. Whole generations of children in communities of color and low-income families are growing up without access to the benefits of getting outdoors.
Now, the Trump Administration is threatening to sell off or privatize public lands that we all enjoy. The Outdoors for All Team is working to oppose these harmful initiatives and protect the lands that we already use and enjoy.
The Every Kid Outdoors Program gives all fourth graders a free pass to national waters, lands and forests for themselves and their families. Since its implementation nine years ago, this nationwide program has helped 1,105,805 students explore nature.

Studies show that just 20 minutes spent in a local park helps kids concentrate better in school
However, people of color and low-income families in cities across the U.S. are significantly less likely to live near a park, trailhead, or green space. Sierra Club’s Outdoors for All Campaign works to expand universal access to nature for all of us.

Outdoor Access for the Military Community: Report Briefing
The Sierra Club Military Outdoors team released a report surveying the military community’s experiences with the outdoors, including recommendations for improving outdoor accessibility for the veteran and military community.
What We Are Doing
Sierra Club’s Military Outdoors initiative ensures military members, veterans, and their families enjoy the beauty of nature by removing barriers preventing them from experiencing the great outdoors.
Our Nearby Nature initiative engages youth and communities to explore, enjoy, and protect parks, waters, and natural spaces in urban areas.
The Sierra Club is also proud to host the Outdoors Alliance for Kids, a national partnership of diverse organizations focused on connecting children, youth, and families with the outdoors.
Our Transit to Trails for All initiative works to ensure that public lands are in reach for everyone by increasing public transportation options that make nature more accessible.
What You Can Do
Congress Must Stop the Erasure of Our History
Our national parks belong to all of us -- and so does the truth.
Right now, the National Park Service is removing and censoring exhibits that tell essential parts of the American story, including the history of slavery at Independence National Historical Park and climate science at other sites across the country.
These decisions are not about accuracy. They are about omission.
National parks are public classrooms. They are entrusted with presenting history and science based on evidence, professional standards, and transparency, not political pressure. When entire chapters are removed, visitors are denied the opportunity to understand our past honestly and learn from it.
A small number of members of Congress have begun demanding answers from the Department of the Interior, but we need more pressure. Your elected officials need to hear from you today!
