WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, as part of a suite of “deregulatory actions” attacking health, clean air, and climate, the Trump administration announced its plan to reconsider the Environmental Protection Agency’s standards for light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicles.
In response to the announcement, Sierra Club Clean Transportation for All Director Katherine García released the following statement:
“Any attempt to roll back these common-sense clean vehicle standards is a devastating attack on clean air and climate action, and Donald Trump is making it clear his mantra is polluter profit over everything. Strong vehicle emission standards make our cars and trucks spew less pollution, save families money on fuel, and give consumers greater choice for cleaner, more fuel efficient vehicles. Attacking them only hurts the health, jobs, and wallets of Americans. While the Trump administration claims to be motivated by cutting costs for Americans, his actions will have the opposite effect; Trump's recent tariffs on automobiles and auto parts will increase the cost of vehicles by thousands. Sierra Club members and supporters worked for years for these critical standards. We will do everything in our power to protect them.”
