Washington, DC-- Today, after months of public pressure, the Center for Disease Control finally released a report from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) on the Perfluoroalkyls toxic chemical family and its presence in the environment, effects on human health, and regulation concerns about acceptable levels. The White House was blamed for suppressing the release of the report. The report shows several detrimental health effects of these chemicals on people--especially women and children--including reproductive, developmental, immune compromising, and even cancer-causing effects. See the full draft of this report here.

Some of the major health effects can be viewed here.

In response, Director of Sierra Club’s Gender, Equity and Environment Campaign A.Tianna Scorrazo released the following statement:

“It’s absolutely unacceptable that this administration actively covered up this health report. The findings clearly show the danger present in communities around the country when it comes to toxic chemicals in our drinking water and in our environments. Women and children, in particular, are at serious risk of health-threatening exposures but the Trump administration only worries about saving face.”
