WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is taking up the INVEST in America Act that would make job-creating infrastructure investments.

Representative Chuy García will introduce three green transportation amendments in line with the vision of the THRIVE Act that would do much more to reduce pollution, prioritize equity and justice, and create good, union jobs, strengthening the underlying bill.

In response, Will Anderson, Associate Director of Legislative/ Administrative Advocacy for Sierra Club’s Clean Transportation for All campaign, released the following statement:

“The Sierra Club commends House Democrats and the leadership of Chairman DeFazio and Representative García for charting a path for a big and bold infrastructure package that can significantly shift the status quo of our polluting transportation systems.

“It’s past time we treat and fund public transit as the essential infrastructure it is: a civil right and a climate change solution. Electrifying our nation’s buses and commuter rail, while training workers to support the transition to a clean transportation nation, is a massive opportunity to act on climate.

“We urge the House T&I Committee to adopt Representative García’s amendments to further strengthen the INVEST in America Act, and we urge Congress to build upon it as an infrastructure package in the vision of President Biden’s American Jobs Plan is crafted.”
