WASHINGTON, D.C. -- This month, First Lady Jill Biden made moves toward reviving the Joining Forces initiative, a program to support military service members, veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors, naming Rory Brosius as executive director of the initiative. Biden and then-First Lady Michelle Obama originally launched the program in 2011, focusing on three areas: employment, wellness, and education.

In response, Sierra Club Military Outdoors campaign manager Rob Vessels released the following statement:

“We are excited for Dr. Biden to be dedicating her attention to a cause that is so near to her heart. Coming from a military family, she knows the struggles veterans and their loved ones can go through, both during active service and once that service is over.

“We look forward to seeing the energy and ideas a revitalized Joining Forces will bring to the work of improving veterans’ health and wellness.”
