ALBANY, NY -  Today, on the third day of 2021 State of the State addresses, Governor Cuomo announced several pieces of a bold vision to make New York a national renewable energy economic and jobs powerhouse and rapidly decarbonize the state’s electric sector.

In keeping with the state’s precedent-setting Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, the Governor’s proposals would invest in renewable energy at unprecedented scale, create 50,000 new family supporting jobs, create new renewable energy manufacturing facilities, offshore wind ports and job training centers, and make needed investments in New York’s transmission system.

In response, Sierra Club New York Campaign Manager Lisa Dix released the following statement:

“The Sierra Club applauds the Governor’s holistic approach to the just and equitable transition of New York’s electric sector. Today’s announcements, including targeted investments, lay the foundation for a clean energy economy that puts New York families, workers, communities and businesses at the center. Once implemented, these proposals will serve not only as the template for fully decarbonizing the rest of New York’s economy, but as a model for the nation to follow.”
