WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, the Sierra Club announced the launch of its Victory Corps program for the 2020 election. The Sierra Club’s Victory Corps program is a nationwide coordinated electoral effort that embeds staff on congressional and senatorial campaigns around the country.

Beginning in early October, Sierra Club will remotely deploy more than 40 staffers to electoral campaigns around the country to work directly in support of climate & environmental champions. These staff will lead a robust operation to mobilize and recruit the Sierra Club’s nearly 4 million members and supporters to volunteer in support of these pro-environment candidates, and work with their campaigns to contact voters and get out the vote.

While the Victory Corps program was established in 2008, the Sierra Club has been deploying staff to work with electoral campaigns since 1988.

The full list of races the Sierra Club’s Victory Corps Program is engaged on is below. Additional races may be added as the election approaches. Sierra Club will also continue to mobilize its members and supporters to elect pro-environment candidates in other key districts and states across the country and support these champions through its affiliated PAC, Sierra Club Political Committee.

“As the nation’s largest grassroots environmental organization, the Sierra Club is uniquely equipped to mobilize thousands of voters in key Congressional districts and battleground states to elect our endorsed candidates” said Sierra Club PAC Director Matthew Gravatt. “Our staff are highly skilled and even more highly motivated to win campaigns for climate and environmental champions, and that’s exactly what they will do.”

“In Coastal Virginia, we understand firsthand the impact the climate crisis has on everyday Viringians, and how important it is to have leaders in Congress who are committed to a sustainable and healthy future,” said Congresswoman Elaine Luria Representing Virginia’s Second Congressional District. “I am grateful for the work that Sierra Club does to elect leaders who fight for our environment.”

Said Congresswoman Lucy McBath of Georgia's Sixth Congressional District: “While my opponent has dodged questions about the severity of climate change, I know that the science is indisputable. I believe we must make every effort to ensure our communities are safe from pollution and the effects of climate change. Maintaining a clean environment is a top priority for my constituents, and, when it comes to climate change, nobody fights harder than Sierra Club. Together we will win this election.”

“Donald Trump is an unmitigated climate and environmental disaster, a danger to our democracy, fundamentally offensive to the values of equality and justice, and Congressional Republicans have enabled and encouraged him every step of the way” said Sierra Club President Ramon Cruz. “Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have refused to take climate action and failed to protect our air, water, democracy, and future. That’s why we must ensure we elect a pro-environment majority in the Senate and expand the House majority.”
