Austin, TX: The Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Mike Siegel (CD 10) in the primary runoff election and general election.
"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Mike Siegel for election," said David Griggs, Political Chair of the Sierra Club’s Lone Star Chapter. "We are confident that he will continue work to protect Texas families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for Texans."
"The Sierra Club endorsement is a tremendous honor,” said Mike Siegel, candidate for the 10th Congressional District. “Together, we have major work to do in the Texas 10th: a coal plant in Fayetteville is poisoning the region; the state is allowing unregulated fracking next to neighborhoods and water supplies; and the Houston area has suffered five "500 year floods" in five years, exacerbated by human-driven climate change. Together we are building a movement to fight for clean air, clean water, and a stable climate. I couldn't think of a better partner in this work than the Sierra Club."
Given the current administration’s continued threats to our clean air and water and public lands, it is more important than ever to elect environmental champions like Siegel. Siegel has been a steadfast organizer and community activist across the 10th Congressional District, advocating for commonsense regulation of the fracking industry to control air and water pollution, the permanent retirement of the Fayette coal plant, and clean energy development with good union jobs.
"We are deeply grateful to Mike for his support and leadership on centering justice and equity in addressing environmental protection in Texas", said Matt Johnson, Political & Communications Director of the Lone Star Chapter. "He is a true environmental champion who will fight to protect Texas’s clean air, clean water, our climate, and natural treasures."
Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Siegel's campaign.
"We are going to do all we can to help ensure Mike Siegel is elected," said Craig Nazor, Lone Star Chapter Executive Committee member, Conservation Chair, and resident of the 10th District. "Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on his behalf, and we will speak to the public as often as possible about his exemplary environmental leadership. District 10 badly needs better representation in Congress, so we are looking forward to a victory for Mike on election night to get him fighting for the environment as a U.S. Representative."
Paid for by Sierra Club Political Committee and authorized by Mike Siegel for Congress.
