Volunteer Opportunity: Political Compliance Officer

The Pennsylvania Chapter is recruiting for a volunteer Chapter Political Compliance Officer to work with our Political Committee and our Chapter leaders to ensure our volunteers and staff follow all applicable state and federal election laws, including endorsing climate champions and leveraging our organizing capacity in key political races.

If you like working with volunteers, helping others understand how the law works, and supporting efforts to elect environmental champions, this is for you!

This volunteer position is especially well-suited to those with experience — or interest — in election law, political fundraising, and Pennsylvania politics.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and keep track of all laws, rules, and regulations on political contributions, spending, and communications at the federal level and in Pennsylvania
  • Monitor and respond to support requests for all Pennsylvania Chapter endorsements, communications, fundraising, expenditures, and any other activities related to Chapter involvement in elections
  • Train Chapter staff and volunteers on how to comply with the rules around election work
  • Work with Chapter staff, volunteer leaders, and the Sierra Club National Compliance Team on compliance matters for the Chapter

Preferred skills:

  • JD or in-depth knowledge of election compliance laws and regulations
  • Ability to work well with volunteers Experience with Pennsylvania elections Interest in promoting environmental champions to local, state, and federal office
  • Strong ability to communicate with people on how the law works, legal requirements for activities, etc. (ideally without boring them out of the room)
