Massachusetts Sierra Club Applauds Boston Mayor Walsh’s 2019 Environment and Transportation Legislative Agenda
BOSTON -- Today Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced a statewide legislative package focusing on environment and transportation. The package outlines six bills that, if enacted, would create much-needed improvements and additions to our cities’ and state’s actions on climate, mobility, and public health.
The proposal to create a regional commission to lead major coastal and inland resiliency projects underscores the Mayor’s understanding that the threats of climate change do not obey the lines we have drawn onto our maps. Similarly, proposals to encourage statewide support for safer streets, active mobility, better functioning and equitably accessible public transit, and to generate transportation revenue are all efforts to be applauded.
In response to the Mayor’s announcement, Sierra Club Massachusetts Chapter Director, Deb Pasternak, said:
“It’s imperative we work together at all levels of government in taking immediate action to curb emissions and create resiliency, to both prepare for and reduce the impacts of a warming climate. We continue to advocate for quick implementation of Boston’s Community Choice Energy program, and are pleased to see these additional statewide proposals from New England’s largest city. Sierra Club looks forward to working with the Walsh Administration on making swift progress on equitable climate solutions that work for all residents.”
