Greetings Friends of Los Padres National Forest and Carrizo Plain National Monument:
NOVEMBER 20TH IS CRITICAL DAY FOR OUR LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST PROTECTION BILL
As you know our Sierra Club Central Coast Heritage Coalition has officially launched a major campaign to protect the Los Padres National Forest (LPNF) and Carrizo Plain National Monument from a number of threats planned by the Trump Administration such as oil and gas drilling including fracking, uranium mining,, logging and stopping endangered species act protections for species on LPNF lands. This is the largest Sierra Club led campaign to protect the LPNF in over 25 years.
Our campaign is centered around congressional passage of the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act ( HR 2199) which we have worked on for over a year to put together with the help of Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-Santa Barbara) and his staff.
This is a passionate journey for our coalition, for our feelings are strong about protecting one of America's most diverse and scenic national forests and that journey has begun and the next stop and a very important one is the:
November 20th is mark up day for our bill before the House Committee on Natural Resources, the House Committee which oversees all national public lands bills before the bills go to a full U.S.House of Representatives vote. November 20th is a critical day for our bill.
We ask that each of you contact the House Committee on Natural Resources and ask for a YES vote on HR 2199 as recommended by the committee staff on November 20th. (NOTE: we have met with committee staff and have worked out the few small concerns the staff had with our bill such as boundary maps and staff is now completely satisfied with our bill).
You may contact the committee in any of the following ways:
Phone: (202) 225-6065
Fax: (202) 225-5929

email: nrdems@mail.house.gov
Also as part of our community outreach in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties we have speakers available to meet and talk to your group or organization about the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act if you would like, just let me know.
