Legislative Activities
Thoughout its long and storied history, the Sierra Club has been an ardent advocate for sound environmental policy at the local, state and federal levels. Reaffirming its mission to explore, preserve and protect the natural resources and environment of our planet, the Chapter Political Committee meets to recommend endorsements of legislative proposals and candidates to the Chapter Executive Committee.

Electing candidates to local, state, and federal office is instrumental to the development of sound environmental policy! As citizens, it is our responsibility to support those individuals who demonstrate a commitment to the environment in their capacity as an elected official. Through volunteering for a campaign or giving political contributions, members of the Sierra Club strive to elect strong individuals who will stand up for the environment and our communities!
Chapter activists work at the local level in both Santa Barbara and Ventura counties to promote the election of environmentally sensitive candidates to public office by recommending endorsements to the chapter Executive Committee, organizing support for endorsed candidates, and maintaining a liaison with successful candidates after election.
Electing Environmentally Sensitive Lawmakers
We urge you to consider the environment when you vote. Only by electing candidates who share the view of the Sierra Club on the importance of the protection of the environment can we make our state the model for the rest of the nation.
