The Piasa Palisades Group of the Sierra club invites members and friends to our Annual Summer Picnic on Sunday, August 4th, at Eldon Hazlet State Park on Carlyle Lake.
Make plans to join all of us at the Olympic Pavilion overlooking the 26,000 acre lake for beautiful scenery and bird watching. Next to the pavilion is a kid’s playground for the little ones to enjoy. There is a lot for adults to do also including 7 hiking trails totaling 9.5 miles and paddling on the calm and tranquil waters of Peppenhorst Branch. Bring your own canoe or kayak if you have one or there will be (4) kayaks available for use. The park has a variety of 328 camping sites, 5 cabins for rent, and a camp store for those staying overnight.
The day will begin with a potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m. under the pavilion. Bring a dish to share, along with your own beverages, dinnerware, utensils, and drinking vessel. We will have water available for guests and the pavilion comes equipped with a BBQ grill.
After lunch feel to explore everything the park has to offer including the adjacent Carlyle Sailing Association sailboat cove and fishing pond. Join us for a paddling adventure by meeting the group at the pavilion at 2pm. Boats and gear are limited, feel free to bring your own. We will carpool to the access point less than a mile away on the park grounds. Paddling should last about 2-3 hours. Then we will load boats and gear and carpool back to the pavilion.
Campers can reserve a site online at www.reserveamerica.com. For more information about camping or anything the park has to offer, contact the park service at (618) 594-3015.
Feel welcome to come for lunch or stay the entire weekend. Please RSVP by contacting Amitie Flynn at amitieflynn@gmail.com or 618-946-1098 (leave message).
