Our Work

The Piasa Palisades Group of the Sierra Club has been hard at work in the Metro East area since 1972. With more than 800 local members, an established network of activists led by a devoted Executive Committee, and positive working relationships with local administrative decision-makers, this group has long been an environmental leader in downstate Illinois. Some of our key projects and partners include:

  • Grow Solar Metro East: this program makes installing solar simple and more affordable by educating homeowners and businesses and creating opportunities for them to pool their buying power to secure significant discounts.
  • Metro East Green Alliance: this group holds polluters accountable and works to support the advancement of the clean energy economy through education, intervention, and advocacy.
  • Three Rivers Project: the Piasa Palisades Group has been working since 2000 to successfully protect this region from sprawl, unsustainable agriculture, air and water pollution, wetlands destruction, and deforestation.
