The Sierra Club proudly endorses Bruce Spiva for DC Attorney General. Bruce Spiva is the candidate who will best protect DC residents from polluters who threaten clean air, water quality, and the future of our climate.
“Bruce Spiva’s career fighting for everyday people in civil rights, consumer protection, housing, and antitrust enforcement cases uniquely qualifies him to fight to protect DC residents and ensure that polluters are held accountable,” said Mark Rodeffer, chair of the Sierra Club DC Chapter Political Committee. “As a plaintiff-side class action attorney, Bruce Spiva forced a big oil company to pay $50 million to improve air quality with projects like taking gas-guzzling cars off the road and creating electric vehicle charging stations. When elected, Bruce Spiva will ensure that polluters are held accountable and that fossil fuel interests are not allowed to mislead consumers about the threats posed by their product.”
Bruce Spiva said: “Environmental justice is a housing justice, racial justice, and economic justice issue – and I will approach it as such as Attorney General. Pollution disproportionately impacts our low-income, Black and Brown communities. I will enforce the law against private companies who perpetuate pollution and greenhouse gases and be a staunch advocate within the DC government to prevent District agencies from being a part of the problem."
Matt Gravatt, Sierra Club DC Chapter chair, said: “As DC Attorney General, Bruce Spiva will fight for the people of DC and our environment. Bruce Spiva has spent his career giving a voice to the voiceless, standing up to special interests and polluters, and working to protect the people’s interests. The Sierra Club will mobilize our thousands of members and supporters across the District to vote for Bruce Spiva because we need a people’s and environmental champion as DC Attorney General.”
The Sierra Club is evaluating candidates in other 2022 races in DC and hopes to make additional endorsements soon.
DC’s primary election is Tuesday, June 21, 2022 and the general election is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
