About Us

About Us

Whether through volunteeringdonating, or joining, your support makes the Sierra Club an effective advocate in the nation's capital. If you have recently joined or renewed, thank you! Your membership helps you contribute to the efforts of more than 3 million Club members and supporters working to preserve our environment.

As an added bonus, as a DC resident, member status grants you automatic membership to your local Sierra Club chapter in the District of Columbia, a community of thousands of members and supporters, actively involved in local conservation and elections. The chapter maintains a calendar of opportunities to become engaged and informed and to join our people-powered campaigns.

If you have any questions, please contact the DC Chapter general inbox or any chapter leader.

Meet Our DC Chapter Staff

David Whitehead
DC Chapter Director

A former high school teacher, David has worked as a political, community, and labor organizer in the DC area for nearly a decade. He has designed and led campaigns moving over $25 million for progressive priorities on a variety of issues (transportation, housing, homelessness, education, community safety). Prior to the Sierra Club, David worked as an organizer and trainer at WIN (Washington Interfaith Network), Greater Greater Washington, Leadership for Educational Equity, and CASA. An educator and organizer at his core, David has trained over 550 community leaders in the fundamentals of community organizing and political campaigns. He has supported candidates as senior staff or as an advisor at every level of the DC ballot (Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner to Mayor), and has fought for and passed city-wide legislation on topics ranging from land-use policy to school safety. David holds a Bachelor's degree from Gonzaga University in Religious Studies, and a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Dominican University. He has worked his way through 35 of the 63 US National Parks, is an avid San Antonio Spurs fan, and lives with his partner, dog, and cat in the H Street Corridor of Washington, DC.

Katie Meyer
Clean Energy Organizer

Katie Meyer is a lifelong organizer and campaigner and has worked on local, Congressional, and Presidential campaigns and in organizing around climate. Her most recent experience was as a Temporary Distributed Organizing Representative with the Sierra Club Political team, and she is thrilled to continue with the Sierra Club. She also worked as field director for Senator Nina Turner’s campaign in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2022, as the San Diego Area Field Director for the Bernie Sanders Presidential Campaign in 2020, and as Campaign Coordinator with SanDiego350. She received her bachelor's degree in Public Policy from Mills College. In her spare time, Katie likes reading, exploring different bookstores and coffee shops in DC, hiking, and cooking vegan food.

Eva Sadana
Chapter Outreach & Communications Coordinator

Eva Sadana is a climate justice organizer with experience in policy advocacy and youth organizing. She has worked at the Sunrise Movement’s DC Hub and has interned on the Field Team at The Climate Reality Project. Eva graduated from the Dual Bachelor’s program between Columbia University and Sciences Po Paris with degrees in Anthropology and Political Science, focusing on climate policy, environmental literature, and Indigenous studies. Eva is American, Indian, and French; she grew up in eastern France at the foothill of the Jura Mountains. In her spare time she likes to run in Rock Creek Park, play tennis, or read at Potters House, her favorite cafe in DC.
