Sierra Club Seeks Passage of Energy Efficiency Standards Act in DC

The Sierra Club strongly supports legislation in the DC Council to increase energy efficiency requirements for appliances sold in DC. Boosting appliance efficiency, sometimes called "the best energy and climate policy you've never heard of," would result in substantial energy, water, and monetary savings.

The Appliance Standards Awareness Project estimates that by 2025, these requirements would save 78 gigawatts of electricity, 700 million gallons of water, and $20 million in utility bills every year (with the annual numbers almost double that by 2035!).

The Sierra Club and the DC Environmental Network prepared a fact sheet on DC's Energy Efficiency Standards Act.
