The Washington DC Chapter of the Sierra Club supports the installation of permanent, protected bicycle lanes on Florida Avenue between 2nd and H Streets NE. These protected lanes are needed for the safety of cyclists attempting to use this important but dangerous corridor. Recent pedestrian and cyclist deaths on Florida Avenue dramatize this need. Further, we applaud the installation of protected bicycle lanes on a temporary basis, while permanent plans to improve safety in the corridor are being developed.
