Meet our new Chapter Coordinator, Debbie

Hello new DC friends,

My name is Debbie Chang, I am the new Chapter Coordinator for the Sierra Club DC chapter. I will be replacing Rebekah Whilden who will be moving to the Clean Transportation for All campaign with the national organization. I grew up in California and volunteered with the Loma Prieta chapter of the Sierra Club.

I'm thrilled to join the DC chapter of the Sierra Club. I'm looking forward to supporting the mission of environmental protection and serving the local volunteers that make the DC chapter great.

In the last few years, I've been active as an organizer and a citizen lobbyist on the issue of climate change. I volunteered with groups in the DC Climate Coalition that passed the Clean Energy DC Omnibus Act of 2018 with the support of the Sierra Club.

Today's world has complicated problems like climate change and environmental injustice, and it will take collective action to solve them. By being a member and/or volunteer of Sierra Club, you are pooling your power as a group to influence systemic change. Volunteering and donating adds to that capacity. I would love to meet with you to figure out what kind of role you can occupy in this movement. I have grown so much in the last few years as an organizer and an activist, and it was due to the opportunities I had volunteering. We need leaders and we want to grow you into becoming a leader within our chapter. Sign up here to volunteer!

Not everyone has the time or bandwidth to become a volunteer organizer, and that's understandable. In those cases, the next best thing you can do is having an organization you trust like the Sierra Club: Act when they say to act, call and sign petitions when they ask to call and sign, donate when they ask to donate, and drop in for volunteering or events as your time allows so that you can meet and build relationships with the members of your community.

I'm looking forward to meeting and working with you all. Thank you for being a part of the Sierra Club family.
