The Canadian fossil fuel distribution company AltaGas wants to buy our local gas utility, Washington Gas. AltaGas makes money by expanding the use of greenhouse gases and has stated its strategy is cashing in on a "renaissance" of fossil fuels.

And worse, if the merger is approved, AltaGas could use NAFTA to gut DC's environmental laws. If we make commonsense rules to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and AltaGas thinks it hurts their bottom line, they can sue in a NAFTA tribunal. And DC won't be able to defend ourselves. The Trump administration would get to decide whether to fight for our climate protection policies.

Stand with the Sierra Club in protecting our climate and opposing this disastrous deal!
