Zero Waste Committee promotes Zero Waste both at home and abroad

On November 6th, the DC Chapter Zero Waste Committee Chair Hana Heineken and member Laura Calderon participated in the US State Department's America Recycles Day event and demoed zero waste practices to Statement Department staff.  The Committee was invited back to write a blog on zero waste, which has been distributed around the world.

In December, the Committee was invited by the World Bank to speak to a local government delegation from the city of Ningbo, China, on how local NGOs are engaging on waste management issues in Washington DC. Committee Chair Hana Heineken and Committee members Jim Schulman, Kara Davis, and Judith Barlow discussed waste management practices in DC and efforts to bring the city closer to zero waste. It was the first time they had been exposed to the zero waste concept and we had a very lively discussion.
