Monday afternoon, public health and environmental advocates from across Illinois rallied outside Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) before offering public comments to the Illinois Pollution Control Board (IPCB). Monday’s hearing was the third session where impacted communities have turned out in opposition to proposed changes in state air pollution rules. Up until now, those rules have protected the public against dangerous air pollution. Proposed changes would allow Dynegy-Vistra to keep cheap, dirty plants open while closing cleaner ones, nullifying the Rauner administration’s claim that the move is to “keep plants open” and save jobs. Dynegy has repeatedly pled poverty as a reason for these changes, yet, just this week, they closed on a merger worth $20 billion with Vistra, a Texas-based corporation.

Scott Pruitt’s ability to constantly embarrass Donald Trump will seemingly never end. Yesterday, news broke that Pruitt is no longer just violating a litany of ethical norms, but also federal law. This has led to not only Republican Congressman and Chair of the House Oversight Committee Trey Gowdy condemning him, but now Republican Senator and Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee John Barrasso criticizing Pruitt’s actions as well.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Sierra Club, the Council of Canadians, and Greenpeace Mexico released a new report, NAFTA 2.0: For People Or Polluters? In the trinational report, leading economists from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico present original research on the North American Free Trade Agreement’s (NAFTA) obstacles to climate progress and quantify the climate pollution locked in by the controversial trade deal. As talks to renegotiate NAFTA intensify, the report reveals how the Trump administration’s NAFTA 2.0 agenda poses even greater climate threats. In contrast, the report lays out a new proposal for a climate-friendly NAFTA replacement.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Government Accountability Office, a government watchdog agency, announced that Scott Pruitt violated federal law by spending more than $43,000 to install a private phone booth in his office, according to a report obtained by ABC News.
