Environmental groups call on California restaurants to drop lawsuit against Berkeley's gas phaseout Berkeley, Calif.-- Today, a group of 12 environmental and green building organizations sent a letter to the 29 restaurants who make up the California Restaurant Association (CRA) asking them to drop the lawsuit against the City of Berkeley’s ordinance that phases gas hookups out of new buildings.

The Sierra Club appreciates the governor for endorsing this important goal which has been recommended by scientists and advocates. However, in order for Maryland to achieve this critically important goal we need to end our reliance on dirty coal-fired power plants.
PINEDALE, Wyo.— The Center for Biological Diversity and Sierra Club notified the Trump administration today of their intent to sue over plans allowing 72 grizzly bears to be killed to accommodate livestock grazing in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest. The forest encompasses the headwaters of the Green River, an area important for Yellowstone ecosystem grizzly bear recovery as well as elk, deer and pronghorn migrations.
Last year the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service authorized the killing of up to 72 grizzly bears over the 10-year life of the grazing program.

PITTSBURGH --Today, the House voted to send formal articles of impeachment against Donald Trump to the Senate, beginning the first phase of his impeachment trial. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have both called for the inclusion of witnesses and evidence in the trial, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has so far rejected the terms while admitting to coordinating directly with the White House as opposed to acting as an impartial juror and is actively blocking press coverage of the trial.
The California Public Utilities Commission voted today to allocate over $40 million worth of incentives to boost the installation of efficient, emission-free heat pump water heaters in place of polluting gas-fired water heaters in new and existing buildings. Gas-fired appliances in homes and buildings account for 17 percent of California’s greenhouse gas emissions.
