SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Today, the San Francisco Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in the 2020 election.

"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Speaker Pelosi for re‑election," said John Rizzo, SF Bay Chapter Political Committee chair. "We are confident that she will continue her work to protect California families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for Californians."

Since regaining the gavel, Speaker Pelosi has brought back the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and passed the first climate bill in the House of Representatives, the Climate Action Now Act, for the first time in a decade while continuing to fight back against the Trump administration’s threats to our clean air and water and the climate. In her career, Pelosi has championed land protection and climate action, including passing the landmark Waxman-Markey bill in 2009, and is the architect of legislation creating the Presidio Trust.

"We are deeply grateful to Speaker Pelosi for using the gavel to act on the climate crisis," said Mr. Rizzo. "She is a true environmental champion who will fight to protect California’s clean air, clean water, our climate and public places."

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Nancy Pelosi's campaign.

"We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Speaker Pelosi is re‑elected," said Mr. Rizzo. "Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about her exemplary environmental record. We look forward to a victory for the Speaker on election night and to her continued fight for the environment."
