The Order enables federal agencies with the power to make hundreds of permanent cuts to safeguards and standards, including bedrock clean air and water standards. Trump is encouraging his Administration to eliminate as many environmental safeguards as possible while rejecting additional aid to support American families and businesses, claiming they have a “luxury to watch and see” before acting.

Today, at the bank’s virtual annual shareholder meeting, JPMorgan Chase, the world’s worst funder of climate change, faced multiple questions on climate change as well as pressure to remove climate change denier and former Exxon CEO Lee Raymond from its board. 49.6% of shareholders voted to require Chase to produce a plan to align its business with the goals of the Paris Agreement. And, in a strong rebuke to Jamie Dimon’s leadership, 41.7% voted to split the roles of board chair and CEO.

OAKLAND, CA -- The Sierra Club has elected a new national Board of Directors for the upcoming board term, 2020-2021. Ramón Cruz of Puerto Rico, currently residing in New York City, was elected President, becoming the first Latino President in the organization’s 128-year history. The Sierra Club’s National Board of Directors is democratically elected by the organization’s membership and serves the organization's 3.8 million members and supporters.

Montgomery County, MD -  Late last week, GenOn Holdings announced the scheduled deactivation of the Dickerson coal-fired power plant in August of this year. GenOn’s decision provides only 90 days notice to impacted workers and communities at a time when tens of thousands of Marylanders are dealing with unemployment challenges and counties are making tough budgetary decisions. The 60-year old Dickerson plant is one of six large plants in Maryland still burning coal and facing the declining economics of fossil fuels.
