Just as important, separate negotiations continue on the path forward to protect our democracy and voting rights for people nationwide by passing the Freedom To Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Meanwhile, the Child Tax Credit, a critical support to parents and working families especially during the pandemic, is set to expire on December 28.

Boston, MA — On Wednesday, Mayor Michelle Wu announced lower electricity rates for residents who are opted into the city’s Community Choice Electricity (CCE) program. With local utility provider Eversource increasing their rates for the winter, all CCE rates will cost less beginning on January 1, 2022, in addition to sourcing more local clean energy. The average Eversource Basic Service Residential Customer is expected to spend $27 per month more than a customer on the CCE Standard option.

Harrisburg, PA — Today, the Pennsylvania House passed SCRRR1 disapproving of a regulation enabling Pennsylvania to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). The bill now heads to Governor Wolf, who has pledged to veto it to ensure the state joins the carbon emissions reduction initiative in 2022. Based on today’s vote, neither the House nor the Senate would have enough votes to override that veto.

Little Rock, AR – SWEPCO finalized its intent to burn coal at the Flint Creek power plant until 2038, today when it filed its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) with the Arkansas Public Service Commission (PSC). SWEPCO failed to study the economics of retiring Flint Creek and simply assumed, without any analysis in its IRP, to keep running the high-cost plant on coal. The utility also plans to convert the Welsh coal plant to run on gas in 2028 and operate on gas until 2037, while removing its plan to build a new gas power plant detailed in the original draft.

Today, more than 60 labor unions, environmental groups, and faith, consumer, health, and economic justice organizations sent a letter to Senate Democrats urging them to support the inclusion of a bonus tax credit for consumer electric vehicles manufactured in factories where workers are represented by a union, a provision included in the Build Back Better Act.
