El Senado Tiene Que Pronunciarse Durante Estas Fiestas sobre Build Back Better y la Democracia

Washington, DC — Entre consultas técnicas con la parlamentaria del Senado y negociaciones con actores claves en Washington, continúa el progreso de la Build Back Better Act (Ley para Reconstruir Mejor) pese al total obstruccionismo de los congresistas republicanos. 

 

Igualmente importante es que en negociaciones separadas sigue su curso el proceso de aprobación de la Ley de Libertad para Votar y la Ley John Lewis de Avance de los Derechos del Votante.

 

Mientras tanto, el Crédito Fiscal para Familias con Niños (Child Tax Credit) —un apoyo crucial para las familias trabajadoras, especialmente durante la pandemia— expirará el 28 de diciembre.

 

 

“No podemos esperar más a invertir en los niños y las familias trabajadoras; no podemos esperar más a reducir los crecientes costos del cuidado infantil, las recetas de medicamentos y las cuentas de la luz; y no podemos esperar más para reforzar la democracia protegiendo los derechos del votante.

 

“Urgimos al Senado a completar el trabajo sobre estos cruciales proyectos de ley y prepararlos para ser debatidos en el pleno senatorial en enero.

 

“Durante meses, defensores del clima, empleo, cuidado infantil, cuidado de los ancianos, y las familias trabajadoras han superado todos los obstáculos en el camino de la Build Back Better Act, la Ley de Libertad para Votar y la Ley John Lewis de Avance de los Derechos del Votante. Sierra Club on Build Back Better & Democracy: Senate Can and Must Act This Holiday Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amid ongoing technical consultations with the Senate parliamentarian and negotiations with key figures in Washington, D.C., progress on the transformational Build Back Better Act continues to move ahead despite total obstruction by Congressional Republicans. Just as important, separate negotiations continue on the path forward to protect our democracy and voting rights for people nationwide by passing the Freedom To Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. 

Meanwhile, the Child Tax Credit, a critical support to parents and working families especially during the pandemic, is set to expire on December 28. 

In Response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce Released the Following Statement: 

“We cannot wait to invest in our children and working families, we cannot wait to lower the rising costs of childcare, of prescription drugs and of Americans' electricity bills, we cannot wait to tackle the climate crisis and invest in clean energy jobs nationwide, and we cannot wait to secure our democracy by protecting voting rights. 

“We urge the Senate to complete work on this essential legislation and ready it for debate on the Senate floor first thing in January.

“For months, climate, labor, childcare, eldercare, working family advocates, and congressional champions have cleared every hurdle in the path to get Build Back Better, the Freedom To Vote Act, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to the finish line. We are confident we will cross that line in short order to deliver a victory worthy of our children’s future.”
