Despite opposition from local shrimpers and fisherman and community groups, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on Oct. 6 approved an air pollution permit that would allow construction of the Jupiter refinery in the Port of Brownsville, Texas. The commission, however, imposed two important pollution control requirements that will mitigate the dangerous air pollution from the facility if it is eventually built.

Today, the Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery had a massive oil spill from one of its storage tanks. WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) released a proposed rule to amend certain aspects of its regulations for implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The phased approach to modifying the NEPA regulations would start with three specific changes in Phase 1 to restore certain regulatory provisions from the original 1978 regulations.

Terri Sewell and passed by a vote of 219-212. The passing of the VRAA in the House was imperative, as it would complement the Freedom to Vote Act and bolster the bipartisan Voting Rights Act of 1965. It would expand and broaden Section 2, which has been weakened by two Supreme Court decisions.
