This City of Columbus program aims to plant 300,000 trees in the next five years. Severe weather and insects have taken a toll on Columbus’s trees. Some areas of the city have less than 15 percent tree canopy cover. But you can help bring trees back to Columbus!

The city’s Branch Out Columbus page lists a number of different ways you can get involved. Whether you’re planting, adopting or donating a tree, you can help our city reach its goal of 300,000 new trees!

Along with Branch Out Columbus, we work to preserve central Ohio’s forests and public lands for existing and future generations. We welcome new volunteers to help us accomplish the following goals:

  • protect forests, parks, and nature preserves from harmful activities such as clear-cutting, development, and oil and gas drilling
  • promote the sustainable and beneficial use of public lands, such as recreation, species habitat, carbon sequestration, and clean air and water
  • partake in park planning with area municipalities and encourage widespread public input on proposals that impact our forests, parks, and nature preserves
  • participate in hikes in order to educate and encourage public appreciation of valuable forests and outdoor areas
