Maryland Chapter Sierra Club letter to National Governors Association

MD Gov Larry Hogan was recently elected Chair of the National Governors Association (NGA). His focus will be on encouraging infrastructure investments by all 50 governors. We worry that he might try to use his ill-thought-out "build more roads and add highway lanes" MD approach as the model.

The letter was sent to warn the other governors about the severe shortcomings of Hogan's "widen 270 and 495" gambit. To address climate change, transportation dollars need to be focused on transit and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.
