Seasonal Nature Walks and Invasive Plant Removals
Join environmental educator Bob Boxwell on an exploration of the season at the Hellen Creek Preserve. Hellen Creek Forest and Wildlife Preserve is 150 acres of stream and ravine along Hellen Creek in Southern Calvert County. This land is preserved by Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust, an organization with a mission to preserve and protect ecologically sensitive sites at Cove Point and Southern Maryland through land conservation, scientific research and environmental education. Sierra Club holds 2 of the 7 trustee seats since its formation in 1994. The preserve has over 25 species of trees including hemlocks and are adjacent to The Nature Conservancy's Hemlock Preserve.
Bring: Cameras, binoculars and bug spray or warm layers (depending on the season). Wear sturdy clothes and shoes for invasive plant removal and native wildflower plantings. We will have gloves and tools and refreshments.
Directions: Take route 2/4 to Coster Road in Lusby. Turn right on Clifton Drive and follow to sign 11785 Boxwell's, and left there. Park at the sign at the end of the driveway.
