Maryland – Last night Wes Moore won his campaign to be Maryland’s next Governor, Brooke Lierman won the Maryland Comptroller’s race, and Anthony Brown was elected to become Maryland’s next Attorney General. The election is historic in many ways. Wes Moore will be the first Black Governor in state history and his running mate, Aruna Miller, will be the first immigrant and Asian-American elected to a statewide office. Brooke Lierman will be the first woman to hold Maryland’s Comptroller’s seat, and Anthony Brown will be the state’s first Black Attorney General. The Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club was proud to support these candidates in the election and to urge people who care about the environment to support them.
In response, Maryland Sierra Club Political Chair Rich Norling released the following statement:
"We are thrilled that Wes Moore, Brooke Lierman, and Anthony Brown will serve as Maryland’s top elected officials for the next four years. Maryland voters came out in droves to support these candidates and in doing so have elected leaders who are committed to protecting the environment, improving public health, and addressing inequities. We are looking forward to working with the Moore-Miller administration and other statewide leaders to enact big and bold solutions that tackle the climate crisis, protect our planet, make clean air and clean water available to everyone, and create good family-sustaining green jobs."
