Baltimore, MD: The Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Brandon Scott for Mayor of Baltimore and its choices for Baltimore City Council and Comptroller.
"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Brandon Scott for election as Mayor of Baltimore," said Rich Norling, Political Chair of the Maryland Sierra Club. "As a member of the City Council, Brandon Scott has worked to clean up Baltimore’s heavily polluted air by placing strict limits on incinerator emissions, hold DPW accountable for cleanup of sewage backups in peoples’ homes, reduce the trash that blights neighborhoods, and improve transportation and environmental justice. We are confident that as mayor he will be even more effective in providing all families with clean air and water and lead-free neighborhoods that are safe and pleasant to live in.”
The Sierra Club is America’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with more than 3 million members and supporters. The Sierra Club works to protect public health and ensure safe and healthy communities that are free of toxic air and water pollution. As part of the effort to address climate change, the Sierra Club is committed to promoting clean energy solutions to move the nation beyond dirty fossil fuels like coal, oil and dangerous nuclear power, and towards a safe, clean energy future built on energy efficiency, clean energy, and American innovation. The Sierra Club and its members and supporters work to support candidates who share these values.
The Sierra Club has also endorsed Bill Henry for City Comptroller and Shannon Sneed for City Council President. “Bill Henry and Shannon Sneed will complete a well-qualified, energetic team to get Baltimore moving forward,” Norling said. “Bill Henry will make city financial data and contracts available for all the public to see, and use performance audits to find ways for city departments to be more efficient and responsive. Shannon Sneed will lead the city council in even stronger efforts to provide clean air and water, lead and trash free neighborhoods, improved transportation options, and equity.”
