Have we lost our best hope for cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay in 30 years?

Hours after taking office, Gov. Hogan chose to halt implementation of long-studied, scientist-recommended regulations for keeping animal waste from agricultural operations out of our waters. The Environmental Protection Agency says that Gov. Hogan's thwarting of these new rules for spreading animal waste on farm fields will hurt Maryland’s ability to get phosphorus out of our waters and hit required Chesapeake Bay cleanup targets.

Sierra Club Maryland must do all we can to ensure these rules go into effect and that animal waste stays out of our waters. Our Chapter's reinvigorated Food & Sustainable Ag Committee is working to galvanize the membership to action on these issues, and engage in a broader dialogue about food choices and alternative food systems. Interested in shaping the conversation? Email Sierra Club MD's Food and Sustainable Ag Organizer danfurmansky@gmail.com to introduce yourself. (He's very friendly and very much wants to hear from you.) No expertise needed; just sincere interest!
