More than 65 people attended a webinar last week hosted by Sierra Club Santa Barbara Group and Community Environmental Council (CEC) to educate Central Coast residents about the benefits of phasing out natural gas in buildings in favor of electric. If you missed it, don't worry.

Electric New Buildings 101 is now available on YouTube in English and Spanish versions (see below.) The one-hour video walks viewers through the health, cost and climate benefits of replacing gas with electricity and how you can make changes in your own home and enact new building all-electric codes in your city.

In the video, Sierra Club State Eectrification Campaign Representative Matt Gough presents a multimedia slide show followed by a panel of guest experts: Allergist/immunologist Dr. Christine James, MD, a member of Climate Health Now, CEC's Energy and Climate Director Michael Chiacos and Santa Barbara Architect Alex Pujo

The video comes as the City of Santa Barbara is finalizing an all-electric new building code for this spring. Ojai passed a new building electric code last fall, and activists in several Ventura and Santa Barbara municipalities hope to continue in their footsteps.

More than 40 California cities have passed codes for electric new buildings, a right given them by the state of California, while pro-gas legislators in more than a dozen other states have introduced bills to ban cities from doing the same.
