August Newsletter

The August, 2024 newsletter from the Iowa Chapter of the Sierra Club is now available.  In this issue, you will find:

CO2 Pipeline Update

  • Pipelines: We're headed to court - The Iowa Utilities Commission did not reconsider its decision approving the Summit CO2 pipeline.  The next step is the Polk County District Court.

  • Summit Informational Meetings for its Expansion - The informational meetings for Summit's second phase of the carbon dioxide pipeline are being held in August and September.

  • Meeting with Governor about CO2 pipelines - The Governor has repeatedly refused to meet with the landowners in the route of the carbon dioxide pipelines.  But Jess Mazour had a chance to discuss the issue with her at the Iowa State Fair.

Water Quality

  • Dedelegation Petition - Sierra Club asked the Environmental Protection Agency to revoke Iowa's authority to administer the federal Clean Water Act.

  • Dead Zone Update - this year's dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico bordering Louisiana and Texas is the size of New Jersey.
